How to Measure for Your Hoop

By: Desert Flower
Experts suggest you use the measurements of your
body for your beginner hoop.  Basically, you
measure from the floor to your belly button, or
between your belly button and chest.  This larger
hoop is heavier, which will help with the
momentum, and in turn allow you to keep your
hoop up with less effort.  My first hoop was
approximately 39", and was navel height.  Keep in mind
that different body types will require hoops that may
vary from this measurement.  If you are very petite, it is
suggested that you subtract 2" from the diameter.  If you
are a little bit more to love, you should add 2" more
inches.
Your second hoop (now that you can hold it up)
should be several inches smaller than the first, generally
2"-4" smaller than your first.  When using these "trick“
hoops, there isn't an exact scale, it is just what you feel
comfortable with.  Using these smaller hoops will allow
more articulation, and give you a wide array of
available moves.  LED hoops are part of this "trick" hoop
category.
